Nevada is one of the fastest growing states when it comes to membership! And this is all thanks to all of you — who continue to encourage your friends to join, advertise meetings on posters at your schools, and play active roles in promoting our great organization.

I would like to encourage you all to keep recruiting and keep promoting.  Membership is very important not only to the survival of local chapters, but to the prosperity and recognition of the organization as a whole.

There are many ways you can encourage membership within your school.  Boosting membership can be done in simple steps such as “Bring-a-friend” to chapter meetings, making morning announcements advertising FBLA events, and creating posters to hang on school walls.

Keep in mind that the best potential members are incoming students.

Nevada FBLA has a history of breaking records and setting trends for membership. Upholding that reputation is what makes us a top-notch state.  So, as the year begins, always be thinking about how you can make a difference and how you can recruit a new member.

So, what are chapter visits?

In short, chapter visits are when one or more state officers head to your local meetings. This visit can be anything from a fundraising event to a meeting.  The local chapter members can always learn more from meeting with their state leadership.

This is one of the main tools of communication between the state officers and YOU, the member. It is the goal of the team to inform you with the opportunities that FBLA provides.  This includes important news such as future events, financial opportunities, and the latest developments at the national level.

On Saturday June 5^th and Sunday June 6^th Nevada FBLA Chapter of Clark High School kicked off their new year by hosting a fundraising car wash for their chapter. Organized by Chapter President Wayne Pirtle, his officer team, and adviser, they began by contacting the management of Grumpy’s Convenience Store on Charleston and Durango in Las Vegas, Nevada.

While speaking to the management of Grumpy’s Convenience store and telling them about their donation, based fundraiser for their FBLA chapter, management was very supportive and on board with having Clark’s FBLA chapter host a car wash on their property. They began to promote their chapter’s car wash by using the importance of social media.

By advertising their chapter’s car wash on Twitter and Facebook, they were sure to capture the attention of the Nevada FBLA State Officer Team.They had great support from Nevada FBLA State President Vivian Lee and Southern Region Vice President Alexis Escobar as well as the teachers and students from Clark High School.

Pirtle was nothing more than grateful: “It was a big surprise to have two state officers come support our car wash. We appreciate all of your support!”

He was also grateful for his team and stated: “I couldn’t be happier with all the hard work my officers and members put in to all of our fundraisers, especially my amazing Vice President Maricruz Valdez!”

Chapter Vice President Maricruz Valdez commented saying, “A car wash is a simple yet profitable fundraiser that we would suggest to all chapters!” And with a word of guidance from the Chapter team they said, “A few suggestions to other chapters: Start the car wash later in the afternoon and don’t use towels that are feathery, it WILL stick.”

Are you ready to stick with FBLA through an exciting upcoming year? I sure am! This year, we are looking to boost membership, utilize social media resources by publishing the SilverNotes Blog, create a FBLA Chapter Survival Guide, upload new videos, and so much more. Be on the lookout for the National Recap Video that will take you through the experience of FBLA Nationals in Orlando, Florida.

During this month, the officer team is working on writing up articles for the Back-to-School Newsletter. The newsletter is a great source of information that will introduce you to the different opportunities of awards and scholarships FBLA has to offer, conferences that will take place during year, and ways you can be involved as a member. Be sure to check it out!

The Fall Leadership Extravaganza, or FLX , is an unforgettable gathering of members from some of Nevada’s finest CTSOs all across the state. With one in Reno, Elko, and Las Vegas, FBLA members from all over the state of Nevada have the chance to come together for a truly life changing student leadership conference. With activities ranging from charismatic guest speakers to informative workshops to being able to speak and interact with the State Officers, there is always something to be taken away from the Fall Leadership Extravaganza.

FLX is presented by the Nevada DECA, FBLA, FCCLA, and HOSA State Officers, State Management Teams, and the Nevada Department of Education . It gives FBLA members the opportunity to network and interact with members of other CTSOs. Be prepared to meet new people, make new friends, and learn what it is like in other CTSOs.

The Fall Leadership Extravaganza gives members the opportunity to not only network with members from other CTSOs, but to also learn much more about their very own organization. The FBLA state officers will be available throughout the event and are excited to answer any questions members might have or to listen to any ideas that might help improve Nevada FBLA for the year to come. Be sure to take the chance to talk to members from other chapters for ideas on how to improve your own chapter.

This year’s workshop theme is “The Art of Public Speaking” presented by the State Officers of the various CTSOs. It is a chance for members to learn tips and tricks about this vital leadership skill. Topics ranging from body language, voice, and preparation will all be discussed and plenty of opportunities will be available to practice your newfound skills.

The Fall Leadership Extravaganza will take place during the following dates: October 17^th in Las Vegas at Cashman Center, October 18^th in Elko at the Elko Convention Center, and October 19^th in Reno at the Grand Sierra Resort. Mark it on your calendar and we cannot wait to see you all there!
